Welcome to Vecchiascuola, an enchanted place immersed in the history and nature of the Valchiavenna. Situated in the picturesque hamlet of Pianazzola, at 635 metres above sea level, our facility overlooks a natural balcony with breathtaking views of the valley.

 

The building that houses our guesthouse and holiday home was built between 1906 and 1916 as a primary school for the hamlet, then inhabited by over 300 people. Used until 1981, it remained abandoned for years, until André Platzer bought it in 2015, initiating an ambitious renovation project completed between 2016 and 2018. The work, made complex by the absence of direct access roads and the use of helicopters to transport materials, brought this historic gem back to life, preserving its original charm.
The renovation was conducted with great attention to the environment and energy saving, without consuming new land, as the existing building was completely renovated. The use of a helicopter was necessary to transport the materials, given the absence of roads connecting the municipal car park to the building.

The building was designed to be highly energy efficient, achieving class A++.

In Pianazzola, where methane is not available, the heating system uses pellets transported on the shoulder, demonstrating an adaptation to the peculiarities of the location and a commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Today, the Vecchiascuola offers a unique experience: a return to the past, with rooms and studios decorated with a school theme, in a setting of tranquillity and unspoilt nature. The facility can only be reached on foot in 5 minutes from the municipal car park, passing through the charming pedestrian village of Pianazzola, made up of stone houses and timeless narrow streets.
