The Valchiavenna
Welcome to Valchiavenna
Located in the far north of Lake Como, Valchiavenna is an alpine area in the province of Sondrio that extends on either side of the Mera River towards the Alps in a northwesterly direction. The valley then branches further to the north with Valle Spluga and to the east with Val Bregaglia, both bordering Switzerland.
The Center of Chiavenna
The most important center of the Valchiavenna Valley is Chiavenna, an elegant town surrounded by mountains and washed by the Mera River, 330 meters above sea level. Chiavenna is the heart of the valley and offers a wide range of opportunities for guests staying there.

The Valley
- Nature and Landscape: discover Lake Mezzola and the Pian di Spagna Nature Oasis, a Natura2000 protected area that preserves the biodiversity of the area.
- Trekking and Hiking: explore the many mid-coast hiking trails, such as the Tracciolino that leads up to Val Codera.
- Culture and Museums: visit the Botonera Mill, the Treasure of the collegiate church of San Lorenzo where the Peace is kept, and the wonderful Marmitte dei Giganti Park.
Gastronomy and Traditions: be sure to visit at least one crotto, a typical local place in the town, where you can taste typical specialties and discover the tradition of storing food and wine in cool cellars at a constant temperature.
